The no. of general quizzes are very less as compared to the tech quizzes in Delhi. Not that I am not a huge fan of tech quizzes but it becomes too much to handle. Anyone planning to host a general quiz in the near future?

Quiz Review and Questions: EDGE 2K12 @ Kulachi Hansraj Model School

Kulachi Hansraj hosted its EDGE 2K12 tech symposium today, and I have to say, that it was the worst I had ever attended. I'd heard that the experience at Silico Battles last year was pretty bad, therefore I went for this unheard of Tech Symposium in north Delhi. The Organisation was epic (sarcasm intended). No person knew what was to be participated in, where and how it was to be conducted. The members of their Tech Club had such a poor response for everything, that it cannot be described! And, of course, the Quiz, I don't wish to get started about it. It was so HORRIBLE, including the prelims. First they told us that it was a quiz, then gave us a CROSSWORD Paper and said it was the QUIZ! And the questions are not even worth talking about. The questions were so vague, for Instance,

Q: It is a Browser.

Q: It is a Game

Are these even questions? And then, scoring full in the prelims, I 'managed' to get a place in the finals, as it was clear that the quiz was completely rigged! When we qualified, we asked the teacher-in-charge to make the teams sit in a random order, and she straightaway refused and started speaking in a rude fashion. The quiz went on with questions like "Jelly Bean is from which company". Such questions are not even worth of putting an emoticon to show the pun. Halfway through the quiz, we had a round in which we had to match a few options given, and three of my partner's answers were right on the vague question, involving sizes like 1 million bits= ?. Still, they said that we had to answer the whole question to get points and we were awarded a zero! The team a few places to our left answered in a similar way, and they were given 30 points for 3 correct answers. And we politely questioned the teacher who was handling the quiz, in spite of NOT being the quizmaster, that why were they given points when we were not. She got so rude and ugly with us upon that and started shouting, literally, screaming on us for no reason, and told us that we'll be disqualified for interrupting (obviously she could see the school rigged-with losing badly). We just asked once more, and she refused to answer us and said that her decision was final and we had no right to know about it. That very thing irritated me so much, that we got up from the stage and forfeited the quiz. It is the first time in my life, that someone has behaved in such a wrong way, and even then refused to admit it, and the weird teacher seemed happy about it.

And ALL the prizes were being bagged by KHMS itself!

It was a RIDICULOUS event, one that had no reason to exist at all!

I'd recommend everyone not to go for this event ever!

And, would someone from that school like to clarify whatever I said?

It is affirmative that such events should not be attended by anyone unless they wish to get insulted

Silico Battles - Review

Firstly, these views do not represent those of my school. They are strictly personal.

Ahlcon Public School conducted it's IT symposium today.I would like to recommend everybody to NOT attend it. Badly conducted, volunteers running here and there and have absolutely no clue about what is going on.

Me : Where is the Sr. Quiz being held
Guy 1 : I don't know. Ask him *Points towards another guy*
Me (To the other guy): Where is the Sr. Quiz being held.
Guy 2 : I have no clue. Ask that Girl
Girl (Before I even asked) : I don't know. Don't ask me anything. I am so stressed. *Ran away*
Me : All of you. If you no idea what's going on. Why are you here
Guy 1 : Yaar, hum toh class miss karne ke liye aaye hai. Teachers bewakoof hai na.

If anyone has ever been to a decent IT Quiz (Exun, Code Wars, CORE, etc.) they would know what to questions to expect. What we got at Ahlcon was far from there. Questions such as recognising the type of a programming code, codename of 'Laptop Core i3 and Desktop Core i7'. "Which of these is not a serial bus?" Yes, you guessed it right, it was an MCQ. I asked one of the volunteers there whether there was any negative marking, and I got a very obvious sounding "No" in reply, turns out there was, so said another student volunteer. (I knew I shouldn't have trusted them). It was the worst quiz by far. I would recommend all to remember the name "Silico Battles" and not attend it ever, unless absolutely necessary.

This doesn't mean the school otherwise is bad. (Which might stand true for a lot of other schools). Well the school is good. I know some people there and they are pretty good people. They just don't know how to conduct an IT symposium or an IT Quiz

I heard that the question about Microsoft Wallet,.Net Passport in TCS IT WIZ Delhi 2011 was not answered correctly by a large no. of teams even those who qualified .

I got this one right it was Windows Live ID and guess what how do i know this If anyone of you have seen the User Accounts section in the Control Panel of Windows XP there after selecting an account to edit something comes up in the left sidebar showing Help,Common Tasks.etc.

There's an option about getting a .NET passport and info bout it.So when i first got my PC in about 2005 then i noticed this and remembered this.

Extra things

Did u notice that pickbrain said that no question comes form the book which is given to you before the quiz but both last year and this year questions do come even if not directly form the book.

Eg-

Last year the question about Carol Bartz leaving Autodesk and becoming Yahoo CEO was from the book(actually that was really common).

This year the Sound Blaster from Creative question aked as the first question of crossword was from the book.

Can anyone tell me how the champions prepare for TCS IT Wiz.See this question may sound tooo silly but what i want to ask is that reading Wikipedia articles just 1 day before the quiz(that's what i did) its not enough so what to do?

I dont know anything about books like Blitz,Mindnote( I saw Raunak Sett holding it) what are hey do they help where can i get them form?

All my views here are personal.

CODE 2011 was one quiz I've ever attended which had so much controversies (read: rigging). On day 1, they told us that we had qualified for the finals. And when I checked their facebook page in the evening, out of nowhere, the was a tie between us and another school. I just asked them to show us the sheets of all the finalists, because I was having a serious doubt about Mayoor Noida's qualification. And they were Not At All ready to show the sheets, we talked to their Computer Science HOD, their President, their Quizzing Executives, even the other quiz finalists wanted to see the sheets. Still, they were not ready to show the sheets.

Their CS HOD - "We can't show you the sheets, nor tell you the cut off, they're highly confidential"

Then, I asked one of the CODE members that were we really the lowest scorers among the top six or is there any other reason?

His reply - "We just picked up one team randomly, and it was Cambidge Indirapuram. Hard luck."

I mean, what's the problem in showing the sheets?

Out of sheer disgust, we pressed the buzzer in the tie breaker and walked out without answering.

PS. These guys should SERIOUSLY learn to use calculators.

The children's day special shoot of Kaun Banega Crorepati happened yesterday. Nivedita from my school (Montfort) was nominated and made it to the hot-seat. She won 25 lakh yesterday. Actually, she gets just 8 lakh: 30% taxes, and rest 50% to the school.

Code Wars - Review

Code Wars 2011 was held at DPS Vasant Kunj. The Entire event as I would take the liberty to call it, was a grand success. The quality of questions in the Sr. Quiz was amazing. My juniors told me that it was true for also the Jr. Quiz. The crossword had fabulous clues,most were basic on logic, some were a play on words, and few were trivia. The concept of n-crypton and tecathlon, which is not found in any other event I have participated in, is truly commendable. I enjoyed participating in the event.

I attended the Biz Quiz at the Commerce Fest at Ahlcon Public School, Mayur Vihar today, and it was pretty much the worst quiz I've been to in quite a while.

The preliminary paper was a multiple choice paper with questions not within a million lightyears from the ambit of a 'Biz Quiz' and ambiguous options

E.g 'Which of these is not a constitutional body?'

a. Election Commission

b. UPSC

c. 'Finance' (?)

d. Planning Commission

The answer's easy enough, but then topical quizzes ought to be kept on topic, right..

The team next to us took a sheet, wrote A, B, C and D on the four corners and spun a pen to guess what the answer was - interestingly, they qualified.

We didn't. I clearly remembered tallying 20 correct answers, so I asked to see my question paper, and this teacher walks up and tells me I can't, it's against the 'rules'. I said, okay, declare the correct answers to the quiz at least? Negative again. Can I atleast know what the highest score was? No, you can't.

The whole thing looked suspiciously rigged - I asked a friend I had in the school, and he's like, dude, I can't tell you all of this, it's secret : /

Further proving my point, the highest score on stage was 15 points, and I guess everyone else was on zero.

I did ruin their quiz by making them cancel half the questions by prompting the answers though :p I just couldn't resist after someone on stage couldn't recognize the logo for Tommy Hilfiger.

Anyhow, essentially, this is just a heads up for anyone who plans to attend next year.

New Season Of BQC

For those of you who don't know, the Bournvita Quiz Contest has restarted from today and will be telecast every sunday at 10:30 am on Colors...but i have a few problem here...

1. It wasnt advertised enough to garner popularity....i wonder how many of you saw it..

2. The level and number of questions has gone down significantly..

3. The contestants loked quite young...somewhere around class VI-VII...if schools got invites, kindly tell me the exact age group...

4. Another quizmaster(the girl who played kareena's sis in jab we met) has been added along with Derek who speaks more than Mr. NoBrein and translates everything into hindi which eats up loads of time...and as a result..we have just 2 rounds..

i just feel the sheen and the charm of BQC has been lost...

Saw this UK film last night , suggested by a friend . An Awesome one , really cool . A fun and refreshing tale about Brian Jackson , played by James McAvoy and his first year at Bristol University .

So , why I m talking about this here - simply becuase its based on Quizzing , yeah you got that right , a film on Quizzing with few good questions as well !!!

With Jackson preparing for the famous British Quiz programme , University Challenge and how he cracks it in the end ( rather I should say how he himself gets cracked ) , thats the crux along with all the mishappenings he goes through in his first year --- its surely a Must watch for every Quizzer I feel , and even the general audience will surely like it
